Hey Stéphane,

I remember that painting. It was part of an exhibition at Gallery Specta, in which all the paintings depicted human beings attempting to cleanse themselves in different ways. The act of cleaning and washing had a mental and symbolic reference rather than a literal, physical one. The exhibition explored the human tendency to strive for perfection. But as we know, humans are not perfect. Our imperfection is what makes us human, not gods.

We can try our best, but it often turns out that whenever someone claims to be a perfect role model or to possess a perfect system, it ultimately leads to fundamentalism and inhumanity. We need the cracks where the light can enter. In the exhibition, the figures in the motifs attempted, in humorous and strange ways, to wash away all the dirt, mistakes, and imperfections.
